what makes a professional photographer a professional?

No one's asked this question, but I think it begs to be asked. But instead of ME answering this, I'd like to hear what YOU have to say about it. What do you think makes a pro a pro?

Someone who has passion for the craft. Someone who takes great pride in their work and wants the photo's not only to be great for their clients but themselves as well. For a professional taking photo's is like breathing they have to do it, whether theres money to be made or not.

A professional is a photographer that can take an amazing image in any given condition. A professional is someone who stays composed, keeps their head in the game and still achieves great art that is technically sound even when the environment is working against them.

Great question!!

Hey Hope!

Here's another one!

I'm going to the Dominican Republic for a week in January! I am debating if I should take my trusty point and shoot or my SLR that I am still learning to use! I may just take both!

Any ideas!

Hope,

I went and took some photos of a newborn baby...had a blast! However I am thinking that I need to purchase some lighting for indoor tasks!

Could I technically use 1000 watt utility work lights on stands? I don't want to spend a fortune on gear just yet!

Would that work as a low cost lighting solution for indoor work? I am still having trouble working indoors with the existing lighting...perhaps we need to get together sometime and you can learn me some things!

I notice you have a watermark on all your pictures. Should a person who is learning photography and posting pics be concerened about adding a mark to their photos too? Even if they are not "professional"?
